The place
The Allgäu brings what the shore lacks: elevation and weather. Clouds hang low, light breaks through, mist stands in the valleys in the morning. In black and white this produces images with a drama the lake cannot offer.
The light
Changeable and therefore interesting. An overcast day is no setback in the Allgäu but often the better source — soft light on green slopes, without harsh contrast.

Practical
Distances are longer than by the lake, with elevation on top. Anyone wanting mountain images should reserve a block of the day for them rather than squeezing them between two items.
