The place
The old town of Konstanz has narrow, deep lanes and façades with history. Mainau is the opposite: cultivated, lush, bright. Anyone wanting both in one day should budget the travel honestly — it is worth it, but it costs time.
The light
In the lanes the light is narrow and moves fast. On Mainau a lot of open sky stands above the grounds; in sunshine I look for the tree groups, because direct midday light there is merciless.
