Württemberg shore

Langenargen

The castle stands right at the water, pale and Moorish — behind it the promenade runs far to the west.

The place

Montfort Castle is probably the most distinctive building on this stretch of shore: pale façade, orientalist forms, directly on the lake. It photographs gratefully because it brings colour and structure without being loud — the façade carries in black and white too.

The light

The lake side catches afternoon sun. The forecourt can turn harsh at midday; then I prefer the shade of the arcades, or move to the promenade where trees break the light.

Practical

The shore path offers long, quiet lines a few minutes away from the castle. The square in front works well for group photographs because every guest finds it without detour.
